Photographer and Director of the Fernando Higueras Foundation

“This Gustav Klimt is never leaving my studio again,” Fernando Higueras thought as Lola Botia told him about her work and professional concerns, sitting on a sofa, intimidated by the successful architect whom she addressed formally and called Don Fernando for fifteen years.

She had arrived by chance, barely twenty years old and almost reluctantly, accompanying a friend who had come to drop off some photographs. When she was welcomed into the spectacular studio at 14 Avenida América, she was fascinated by the Higuerian world she would never leave.

She started working there two weeks after that chance visit and is today the director and driving force behind the Fernando Higueras Foundation. Fernando introduced her as his granddaughter and called her Gacela, Modigliani, Dólares-Lolita-Lola.

Lola Botia is a courageous woman who continues to work and fight like a lioness to preserve the legacy of the brilliant artist whom this country stubbornly refuses to help keep alive.
